For the final project in physical computing, I would like to attempt to make a digital etch-a-sketch with physical knobs. I see this being on a computer, mobile device, or screen connected toa microcontroller device with a controlling pad that has the two knobs (most likely made out of potentiometers) that control the location of the line on the x-axis and y-axis as well as as one or two selection buttons (similar to an 80’s style arcade game).
Below is a video of the etch-a-sketch being disassembled (so I don’t have to) and the components that make it work they way it does. The following make up the device and will be considered in the fabrication:
aluminum dust
foam for the shake to create
metal cords that pull the pointer across
glass screen
plastic housing
